How to calculate cost price on Uzum correctly: what to include

The basis of profit calculation is the cost price. If it is wrong, all decisions on price, ads and margin are wrong too.
What is included in the cost price
- Purchase price (supplier or production);
- Delivery from the supplier to your warehouse;
- Customs and taxes, if imported;
- Packaging and labelling;
- Defects and losses: the share of unsold or spoiled goods;
- Exchange rate difference, if purchasing in dollars or yuan.
Uzum commission, logistics and ads are not part of the cost price: they are counted separately in the margin (unit economics).
Example
100 pieces of product: purchase 5,000,000 UZS, delivery 600,000, packaging 200,000, defects 2% (2 pieces).
- Total costs: 5,800,000 UZS
- Goods for sale: 98 pieces
- Cost price = 5,800,000 ÷ 98 ≈ 59,184 UZS per piece.
If defects are not counted, the cost price looks like 58,000, and the margin is overstated by about 1,200 UZS.
Several batches: average cost price
If batches arrive at different prices:
Average cost price = (total costs of batch 1 + total costs of batch 2) ÷ total pieces for sale
If the first batch is 100 pieces at 60,000 and the second is 100 pieces at 66,000, the average is 63,000. It is easier to track the cost price of the remaining stock than the order of sales.
Currency
If you buy in a foreign currency, convert the cost price into UZS at the rate on the payment day. When the rate changes, the cost price of the next batch changes too, so do not forget to update the price (price formula).
Mistakes
- Counting only the purchase price.
- Dropping delivery and packaging as "small things".
- Not counting defects and returns.
- Writing the cost price once and never updating it.
Where to keep the cost price
You can upload the cost price to MARGN through Excel or enter it manually: after that, net profit and margin per SKU are calculated automatically — Finance and cost price. For the full calculation — Net profit on Uzum.
